The Hundred: How to build a cricket team from scratch

Developing a cricket team from scratch will be far from simple from selecting a group name to building a squad.
What are they called? What color will they play ? What will their badge look like? Who will play with them? And so on.
Those were decisions which had to be produced when The Hundred – a brand new competition to be played for the very first time – was conceived.
The competition – complete with kits and team names – was launched earlier this month, when the eight groups in the UKs first sporting draft will snap up the worlds best players and also the playing squads will be finalised on Sunday.
But how have we got here? BBC Sport looks into the process of constructing up a team to perform in a competition which is totally different to anything found on a cricket field.
The teams are franchises based in seven UK cities – Manchester, London, Leeds, Nottingham, Birmingham, Southampton and Cardiff. Once that was decided, the next step was to assign names and build a new.
The decision to resign from your conventional 18-county arrangement of national cricket meant identities needed to be made to the groups.
To start with, both the England and Wales Cricket Board commissioned research to each of the surrounding regions and the seven rival towns , firstly targeting people – that the age category the ECB hopes The Hundred could attract – and people aged up to 50.
That research gave a study on every team to the ECB, pulling out different topics, which were taken by a firm that was branding.
Southern Brave, as an example, the team which will play Southampton, were named after it had been discovered young men and women in the area.
Manchesters moniker is that theOriginals, that is really a nod to the citys part in shaping decades gone by – from The Hacienda nightclub, the Stone Roses and New Order into Oasis music landscape.
Trent Rockets are so called as the River Trent runs throughout all three of their Nottingham-based groups catchment counties – Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire – along with the Invincibles name was provided to The Oval-based franchise as a subtle reference Invicta, the motto of Kent – among the counties that will feed into the team.
As it came to designing kits, colors which were associated with local football teams have been ruled out, meaning Manchester Originals, for example, will play in dark – the citys part from the Industrial Revolution impacting on the choice of shirt colour.
The centrepiece of this Manchester strip is the Originals emblem, which represents a bolt out of the citys industrial past, and a beehive – a reference to Manchesters employee bee symbol.
Designers also have produced a new alphabet with letters made from symbols and Manchester landmarks that will be utilized around the group in posters and advertisements.
Elsewhere, Birmingham Phoenix may play orange, a colour selected as a combination of two flags – that the yellow of the West Midlands and the yellow and red of Birminghams city.
It also integrates this city flag in the plan of the shirt while Indian Premier League-style stone helmets will be worn by Birmingham batsmen, an effort to appeal to some audience – yet another goal of this Hundreds chevrons.
However, what are kits and team names without gamers?
One of the last steps before the tournament starts – it will run in the college vacations from 17 July to 16 – is the player draft of Sundays men.
Each team has so far selected participant and 2 icons that were neighborhood contracted, and theyll fill the remaining areas up in the squads in a draft in London.
Lots of the worlds leading players are offered, such as Chris Gayle, Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc who have set their reserve price. We are not going to go in the draft searching for 2 openers, Trescothick said. We would be silly to.
We will attempt to pick out certain people we have identified that will be in key positions from the Hundred.
Theres a difference of view on how the championship will play with seasoned franchise cricket coach Trent Woodhill predicting more traditional players and skillsets will come to the fore.
I believe this contest will remedy the balance between bat and ball, explained Woodhill, a high-performance adviser for Your Hundred.
The format allows players bowl 10 balls in a row and that will let bowlers to get on top and keep on top, so batsmen such as Kane Williamson, Steve Smith and Joe Root will be critical.
Equally, opening bowlers who swing the ball the likes of David Willey, Mitchell Starc and Mohammad Amir – will probably be prosperous.
The task is far from completed post-draft. How do you get 15 gamers who have not ever played to mold to a team into creating their franchiser and purchase a victory on the pitch?

Hopefully its not simply a womens team consuming a mens group or even a mens team consuming a womens team. It is a combined up approach and you try to introduce yourself in a manner that reflects the people you have included.
